We seek paid part time substitute cooks and assistant cooks to fill in for illness/absence and to help us with big meals such as Mountain Peak Life dinners.


Position Description – Holiday Mountain Market Coordinator


Description
* Supports the nonprofit Nederland Area Seniors (NAS) organization by managing the community outreach event Holiday Mountain Market (HMM) on the first weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) of December.
* Recruits and manages volunteers to produce all aspects of the event that hosts approximately 50-60 local craft vendors/artisans, photos with Santa, a hot meal café, and a Silent Auction. (The Silent Auction Coordinator is a paid position and the Holiday Mountain Market collaborates with their progress/success.)
* Invites a variety of craft/artisan vendors, selects with a volunteer committee a balanced variety of displays, maps strategic placement for both vendor advantage and customer appeal, negotiates space sharing to accommodate as many applicants as possible.
* Proactively communicates with vendors/volunteers and responds to all vendor inquiries promptly regarding applications, selection, map placement, and event logistics.
* Promotes event in multiple forms of media: print, flyers, ads, online calendars, website, Facebook, QuickTopics, etc.  Develops/prints/distributes/displays any needed signage (most exists already) for promotion and within the building.
* Creates vendor welcome packet with logistics letter, survey, free beverage coupon, and tax collection envelope.
* Recruits volunteer Santa actor and volunteer small musical and performing acts for all open hours of the market for 45 minutes each hour. Sets and promotes performance schedule. (We hire sound system manager with equipment.)
* Manages all aspects of set-up and clean-up (we hire some), including coordinating and training volunteers to mark booth space corners with tape and provide electrical extensions to all wall booths, post interior signs/banners, decorate Santa photo area and ensure properly working photo/printing equipment, set menu/shop/cook/sell foods for café, man vendor greeting/unloading periods, help Silent Auction Coordinator display/cashier/track/take-down/pick-up auction items.
* Collects and tracks on our spreadsheet all vendor payments of application booth fees (and refunds if downsized booth space), and all taxes and fees at end of market, including collection of missing payments immediately following the event. Collects and tracks all cash boxes and donation jars of café and Santa photos. All cash handling is under dual control.

Priority will be given to candidates with the following skills:

  • Experience with planning and organizing community-scale events
  • Enjoys recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Enjoys fast-paced activity with multiple responsibilities during 3-day event period
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, manages multi-tasking well
  • Organized, attentive to detail and deadlines
  • Cash handling experience

Hours, Wage, & Start Date
Hours vary, averaging 10 hours/week late August – mid-December. More hours during event week. Fewer hours in other months.
Wage is $11.50/hour, with possible increase to $12.00/hour based on performance after 60 days.
Reports to NAS Program Director and works in close collaboration with the Silent Auction Coordinator.

Position Description – Silent Auction Coordinator


Description
* Supports the nonprofit Nederland Area Seniors (NAS) organization by raising funds through the annual Silent Auction held in conjunction with the Holiday Mountain Market on the first weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) of December.
* Solicits donations of gift certificates, goods, and services from a variety of donors, and retrieves, organizes, stores and finally displays all items. Solicitation is handled mostly in person in cities and towns within 25 miles of Nederland, along with telephone, email and U.S. mail contacts.
* Recruits and manages volunteers to assist with any responsibilities of the position (soliciting, tracking, display, cashiering, pickups)
* Tracks all donation descriptions, values, and donor contact info and records them accurately on our spreadsheet. Assigns tracking numbers and prints all bid sheets.
* Reports progress regularly regarding lists and geographic areas covered, along with value obtained.
* Collects and records all winning bidder payments and follows through until all items with winning bids are paid and picked up before year end.
* Prepares mail merge thank you letters/receipts to all donors at end of auction, with brief handwritten comment on each within one month following auction.

Priority will be given to candidates with the following skills:

  • Enjoys face-to-face inquiries with prospective donors, representing a nonprofit organization with a professional demeanor, appearance, respect and enthusiasm for its mission
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Self-directed, self-motivated

  • (Vehicular) Access to multiple locations

Hours, Wage, Reporting & Start Date
Hours vary, averaging 5-10 hours per week in August, 10-20 September – December. More hours during event week. Fewer hours in other months.
Wage is $11.50/hour, with possible increase to $12.00/hour based on performance after 60 days. Commission of 10% of amount collected from winning bids on auction sale items obtained directly by this individual (not by volunteers or vendor donations) will be paid after auction project is completed at year end.
Reports to NAS Program Director and works in close collaboration with the Holiday Mountain Market Coordinator.

Sous Chef
We seek a additional Sous Chefs to assist the Head Chef with the preparation of our Mountain Peak Life dinners – at least six hours the afternoon of the dinners (possible additional hours the evening prior) and two hours for breakfasts and brunches. This individual should be reliable, have food handling and preparation experience, and be available to work one Friday or Saturday afternoon per month on the date of the dinner, as well as one Saturday or Sunday morning per month on the date of breakfast or brunch. Assistant House Manager
Our faithful House Manager/Cleanup/Dishwasher also needs a break once in a while and we could use substitutes for her, too! We seek a paid Assistant Clean-Up person to assist the House Manager/Dishwasher (or substitute in their absence) with meal site set-up and clean-up. Monthly Mountain Peak Life dinners require 2-4 hours on one Friday evening per month on the dinner night. Being available on short notice if our regular staff is sick on a Monday or Wednesday is a plus. Duties include setting up the dining/beverage areas prior to the meal and clearing the dining/beverage areas, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, and mopping floors afterwards. Important Volunteer Position
We seek Greeters to assist prior to the Mountain Peak Life dinners. These individuals greet all guests, check them off a list, orient newcomers to the layout and have them complete newcomer registration information.

Guests under age 60 may earn their dinner by volunteering at the meal; we need to know in advance!
